About

Lithium Nomad exists for one reason: the switch from lead-acid to lithium is the best upgrade most RV, van and boat owners will ever make, and also the one they get talked out of by bad information. We are here to fix that.

Why this site exists

A few years ago, converting a house-battery bank to LiFePO4 meant piecing together forum threads, contradictory YouTube videos, and datasheets written for engineers. People spent thousands of dollars terrified that their converter would cook the new battery, or that their alternator would fry itself the first time they drove to a campsite.

The information existed. It was just scattered, jargon-heavy, and often wrong. Lithium Nomad pulls it into one place and says it plainly.

What we solve

Every guide here answers a real question someone actually asked, usually while standing next to a half-finished electrical panel. Will my shore-power converter charge lithium safely? Do I need a DC-DC charger to charge from the alternator? Why does my battery refuse to charge when it is freezing outside? How big a bank do I actually need?

We cover six areas: choosing a battery bank, chargers and converters, solar charging, alternator and DC-DC charging, installation and wiring, and troubleshooting including cold-weather charging. Together they map the whole conversion journey.

Who writes it

Lithium Nomad is written and edited by Marcus Reyes, who spent years wiring battery systems on sailboats and camper vans before going full-time on the road. He has converted two vans and a 34-foot sailboat to LiFePO4, and made most of the expensive mistakes so you do not have to. The writing comes from hands-on work, not rewritten spec sheets.

Our editorial process

Every article starts from a real problem and gets built around a clear decision you need to make. Numbers, voltages and prices are cross-checked against manufacturer documentation and recognized standards such as ABYC guidance before anything goes live. When the honest answer is “it depends,” we say so and explain what it depends on.

We update guides as gear and best practice change. If we get something wrong, we fix it and note the change.

Our standards

  • Plain language over jargon, always
  • Real numbers and real examples, never vague hand-waving
  • Safety first, because a big battery stores a lot of energy
  • No hype, no fear-selling, no pretending one product fits everyone

Lithium Nomad is independent. We are not owned by a battery brand and we do not take payment to recommend one. Our loyalty is to the reader trying to get reliable power without setting money, or a battery, on fire.
